A study by an online platform Campeggio has identified the top nations in Europe where campers can enjoy the van lifestyle, taking into account factors like the number of campervan campsites as well as the average weather, the number of outdoor pursuits, costs of fuel, and many more.
The country that was ranked first on Campsited’s ranking was Croatia, and it was followed by the Netherlands and France, coming in second and third places, respectively. The rest of the top 10 are Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Belgium, and Germany.
Croatia has 347 campervan campsites and greater than 650 outside activities, and an area of 56,594 sq km has the highest overall score. The average summer temperature between the mid to high 20s (Celsius) can also draw more campervan owners.
The study also showed that France has the highest number of campsites for campers, with nearly 9,900, while Malta had the highest annual average temperature of 19.61C.
Finan O’Donoghue, the founder of Campsited, said that traveling in the campervan could open locations off the beaten track and help explore new countries.
He also shared his top three tips for enjoying a campervan break. First, he said to avoid highways and take advantage of a campervan’s ability to go on roads with great views or scenic routes.
Second, he said a benefit of caravanning is that the caravanners can make lunch stops in fantastic out-of-town locations. He suggests making sure to have a few meals in the can before leaving to take advantage of this chance.
Lastly, he said to make full use of campground facilities like showers and laundromats to reduce work in filling up the campervan’s water tank since, regardless of the size, it empties quickly. He added that a campervan holiday could also help families become more conscious when conserving water.
